Untitled Document This meticulously constructed Selmer copy was built by Jean-Noel Lebreton in Avrille, France. It is both visually and tonally a very traditional Selmer guitar, with a vintage 1930s look and the sound to back it up. However, the most astonishing thing about this instrument is the price! Rarely do you find this level of workmanship and materials at this price point. Amenities include solid Brazilian rosewood back and sides, Schaller Classic Deluxe tuners, Busato style neck spline (it actually has twin ebony neck splines, a unique Lebreton feature), and a traditional heat bent pliage.

Sonically this instrument is nothing short of astounding! It posses every element required of an exquisite sounding Selmer copy: dry tone, shimmery highs, warm mids, tight bass, and lots of volume. The balance of this instrument is near perfect, making it very forgiving and easy to record or amplify. Also, it is nearly free of overtone ringing of any kind, a problem that is the downfall of so many lesser guitars. Most importantly, it has that ineffable "Selmer tone" that makes anything you play on it sound instantly like Django.

Playability is excellent, with the ultra low 2.8mm action putting it in the range preferred by highly technical players like Stochelo Rosenberg and Bireli Lagrene.

This is a guitar worth buying first and asking questions later, as workmanship like this is rarely found at this price. Here's a chance to own something really special without breaking the bank.

Wonderful Instrument

By: Jeff on 01/06/2012 08:58:41 AM

Bought this a month ago. Jean Noel Lebreton has added his Kasha bracing ideas to the standard Sel-mac. The result is, as Michael noted, astounding. There is great clarity, volume, atitude, and punch in the single note lines and a different voicing with chords. The chords are thick, perhaps less distinct than usual, but really they smash and growl in a good way. The difference from most really good GJ guitars and the Lebreton seems to be that the Lebreton is more "open". Overall its bright, even in the bass, but underneath there is a airy whoosh at a low frequency; especially in the lower three strings, giving a great overall sound and a big difference in tonality between all 6 strings. Sounds like I'm avoiding saying that its boomy? No - not boomy at all - but airy - nice. Jean is only making a few per year, but as Michael also noted: don't hesitate, you'll be happily suprised.
