Here is a wonderful JP Favino with a very rare Cedar top!
Serial #667, built in 1979.
This is now the third Cedar top Favino I've had and I can say for certain that nothing beats a Cedar top Favino! These Cedar models are a personal favorite of mine, I just love the high end sparkle and mojo they have.
This guitar was built for the illustrious British Gypsy jazz educator, author, and performer Ian Cruickshank. This guitar is nearly identical to Favino #702 which was a Cedar topped guitar once owned by Bireli Lagrene. It is rumored that Favino never made a guitar with the serial #666, so this reddish Cedar Favino is by proxy Lucifer's axe! This guitar features Indian Rosewood back and sides, three piece maple neck, and a Cedar top. The measurements are typical for a Modele #10 Favino: 675mm scale, 16 1/2" body, 4" body depth. If you like the classic Favino sound on the early Boulou Ferre recordings like Gypsy Dreams and Pour Django, Bireli's early recordings (Swing '81 and Routes to Django), or Han'sche Weiss/Lulu Reinhardt (LuluSwing) then this is the guitar for you! As mentioned previously, these Cedar top models are very dear to me. Like the other Cedar Favinos I've had, this guitar has a certain clarity and high end sparkle that you don't normally find in Favinos. Additionally, this guitar has some realy nice low mid growl, gives your chordal work character and attitude! This Favino is the lightest weight and loudest of the three I currently have. It's more responsive high end really gives it nice cutting power, makes the lead lines sing. The hardware is all original by Salvatore Bilardi. This guitar comes with the impossible to find ORIGINAL hardshell case! These cases are super rare as very few of Favino's customers actually bought the guitar with a case. It was made in Checkoslovakia. The guitar is in very good condition. There are no cracks. It has various small dings and scratches which are normal for a guitar of this age. The neck was reset and it plays very nicely. The frets are rather worn and have about 40% of their life remaining. The body was lightly oversprayed. The sunburst neck has some of the finish rubbed off from use. The 10th fret dot was moved to the 9th fret. The tuning buttons were replaced by ones which were handmade by the legendary Michel Wegen! There is evidence of a once removed pickguard. This is the CASH price...add 3% if you'd like to pay with a credit card. Add 4% for international credit card orders.
