This excellent Favino was built during the "transitional" period of the Favino workshop. Jacques Favino had already been retired for nearly five years, but his son Jean-Pierre continued to make guitars in the style of his father. Not long after this Jean-Pierre began experimenting with various design changes which culminated in the modele S that he makes today.

If you like the classic Favino sound on the early Boulou Ferre recordings like Gypsy Dreams and Pour Django, Bireli's early recordings (Swing '81 and Routes to Django), or Han'sche Weiss/Lulu Reinhardt (Lulu Swing) then this is the guitar for you!

Favino didn't make many D holes, but you find them from time to time. This is one of the rare surving examples. The condition is very good. There are no cracks. Just some checking and dings. Playability is excellent, with the action set very low at 2.8mm. Plays like butter with no buzzing.

The serial # is 849. It has a spruce top, gorgeous highly figured Brazilian back and sides (rare for an old  Favino), and has a 3 piece maple neck. It has an original tailpiece. This Favino was built with JPs special 666mm scale. So it is a bit easier to play then the longer 675mm Favinos.

There is a piezo pickup mounted to the top and wired to a jack on the lower bout.

The sound is fantastic! Very, very loud and not overly dark or wet like some D holes can be. The tone is ultra dry with some nice sparkly highs and thick lower mids. Very satisfying and full....
